Registered Nurses: 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):?Assisting patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and?toileting. 

  • Vital Signs Monitoring:?Measuring and recording essential data like blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates. 

  • Mobility Support:?Safely transferring patients between beds and wheelchairs, repositioning bedridden patients to prevent bedsores, and assisting with?ambulation. 

  • Nutritional Support:?Delivering meals, feeding patients who need assistance, and accurately tracking their food and?fluid intake/output. 

  • Health Observation:?Acting as the "eyes and ears" of the nursing team by reporting any changes in a patient's physical or emotional condition to the?supervising nurse. 

  • Environment Maintenance:?Cleaning patient rooms, changing bed linens, and ensuring medical supplies are?well-stocked.? 

Required Qualifications 

  • Education:?A?High School Diploma or GED?is standard. 

  • Training:?Completion of a state-approved?Certified Nurse Aide Training Program (NATCEP), which typically lasts 4 to 12 weeks. 

  • Certification:?Passing a state competency exam to be listed on the?State Nurse Aide Registry. 

  • Compliance:?Maintaining current?Basic Life Support (BLS)?or CPR certification.? 

Work Environment & Pay 

  • Settings:?Most commonly found in?nursing homes?(37%), hospitals (27%), assisted living facilities (11%), and home health services (5%). 

  • Physical Demands:?The role is physically taxing, requiring long hours on your feet and the ability to lift up to?50 pounds.
