Requirements of position




  1. Bachelor’s degree (required) in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field.
  2. Master’s degree preferred, especially for more senior roles or specialized functions.
  3. 2–5 years of experience in product formulation / R&D in nutritional products, functional foods, dietary supplements, or related field.
  4. Hands on experience with bench-top formulation, pilot scale, and commercial scale-up.
  5. Skills & competencies
  6. Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, stability, nutrient interactions.
  7. Experience with labeling, regulatory requirements (FDA, cGMP, etc.).
  8. Skill in sensory evaluation, shelf-life testing, lab analytical techniques.
  9. Proficient in data analysis, scientific method, ability to troubleshoot.
  10. Excellent communication and teamwork – able to coordinate across departments and with external suppliers.
  11. Detail oriented, well organized, able to manage multiple projects and timelines.
  12. Other Requirements
  13. Familiarity with formulation software / nutritional analysis tools (Genesis, ESHA, or similar).
  14. Proficiency with standard lab equipment and safety procedures.
  15. Ability to work in a regulated and safety conscious environment.
  16. Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be a plus in the South Florida context.
  17. Lab, pilot plant, and occasionally manufacturing environments.
  18. Standard work hours, but may require flexibility during scale ups, trials, or launch phases.
  19. Safe handling of chemicals, allergens, and lab materials. Use of PPE required.
  20. Number of new products/formulations successfully developed and launched.
  21. On time delivery of formulation milestones (bench → pilot → production).
  22. Meeting cost, quality, and stability targets for formulations.
  23. Compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  24. Innovations implemented (new ingredients, cleaner labels, better sensory properties).
 
Responsibilities of position





  1. Product Formulation & Development
  2. Design and develop new nutritional/functional products (supplements, powders, beverages, bars, etc.)
  3. Optimize existing formulations to improve cost, stability, taste, texture, nutrient bioavailability, shelf-life, etc.
  4. Conduct lab bench trials, pilot-scale experiments, scale-up to production.
  5. Ingredient Research & Sourcing
  6. Evaluate ingredients (vitamins, minerals, botanicals, functional components, excipients) for compatibility, efficacy, stability, cost, clean-label, allergen concerns.
  7. Liaise with suppliers to secure quality raw materials, documentation (COA, specifications), and assess alternative/new ingredients.
  8. Technical & Regulatory Compliance
  9. Ensure all formulation work meets applicable regulatory guidelines (FDA, cGMP, dietary supplement regulations, food safety standards).
  10. Prepare documentation for labels, nutritional analysis (Nutrition Facts / Supplement Facts), claims substantiation, and ensure compliance with labeling laws.
  11. Experimentation, Testing & Data Analysis
  12. Plan and execute experiments, stability tests, sensory evaluation, shelf-life studies.
  13. Analyze experimental data, interpret results, iterate on formulations.
  14. Maintain accurate records of formulation trials, analytical results, and process parameters.
  15. Cross Functional Collaboration
  16. Work closely with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Operations / Manufacturing, Procurement, Marketing.
  17. Troubleshoot manufacturing or formulation issues during production ramp-up.
  18. Support scaling of formulations from lab to pilot to full manufacturing.
  19. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  20. Keep up to date with scientific research, ingredient innovations, industry trends, and consumer preferences in nutrition.
  21. Identify opportunities for cost savings, cleaner labels, improved functionality, or sustainability.
  22. Propose and lead small R&D projects / pilots to explore new technologies or formats.
