- Bachelor’s degree (required) in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field.
- Master’s degree preferred, especially for more senior roles or specialized functions.
- 2–5 years of experience in product formulation / R&D in nutritional products, functional foods, dietary supplements, or related field.
- Hands on experience with bench-top formulation, pilot scale, and commercial scale-up.
- Skills & competencies
- Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, stability, nutrient interactions.
- Experience with labeling, regulatory requirements (FDA, cGMP, etc.).
- Skill in sensory evaluation, shelf-life testing, lab analytical techniques.
- Proficient in data analysis, scientific method, ability to troubleshoot.
- Excellent communication and teamwork – able to coordinate across departments and with external suppliers.
- Detail oriented, well organized, able to manage multiple projects and timelines.

- Product Formulation & Development
- Design and develop new nutritional/functional products (supplements, powders, beverages, bars, etc.)
- Optimize existing formulations to improve cost, stability, taste, texture, nutrient bioavailability, shelf-life, etc.
- Conduct lab bench trials, pilot-scale experiments, scale-up to production.
- Ingredient Research & Sourcing
- Evaluate ingredients (vitamins, minerals, botanicals, functional components, excipients) for compatibility, efficacy, stability, cost, clean-label, allergen concerns.
- Liaise with suppliers to secure quality raw materials, documentation (COA, specifications), and assess alternative/new ingredients.
- Technical & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all formulation work meets applicable regulatory guidelines (FDA, cGMP, dietary supplement regulations, food safety standards).
- Prepare documentation for labels, nutritional analysis (Nutrition Facts / Supplement Facts), claims substantiation, and ensure compliance with labeling laws.
- Experimentation, Testing & Data Analysis
- Plan and execute experiments, stability tests, sensory evaluation, shelf-life studies.
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, iterate on formulations.
- Maintain accurate records of formulation trials, analytical results, and process parameters.
- Cross Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Operations / Manufacturing, Procurement, Marketing.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing or formulation issues during production ramp-up.
- Support scaling of formulations from lab to pilot to full manufacturing.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Keep up to date with scientific research, ingredient innovations, industry trends, and consumer preferences in nutrition.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, cleaner labels, improved functionality, or sustainability.
- Propose and lead small R&D projects / pilots to explore new technologies or formats.
