Role Summary:
The Weld Engineer provides technical expertise and leadership in all aspects of welding processes and automation. You will be responsible for evaluating and recommending improvements for both new and existing weld assembly systems, tools, and equipment. You’ll also lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure top-level weld quality and efficiency. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead investigations into weld-related defects; implement corrective actions and document lessons learned.
  • Develop and validate welding equipment, parameters, and robot programming for optimal performance.
  • Create and maintain weld schedules, test procedures, and work instructions for manual and automated welding.
  • Participate in APQP activities, focusing on weld assembly cell and tooling design.
  • Support continuous improvement in weld quality, efficiency, and process stability.
  • Maintain weld drawings and master weld schedule databases.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in automotive welding engineering, design, and program development.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Robotic welding systems (e.g., Bosch, Fronius, Lincoln, WTC)
    • Welding processes including RSW, GMAW, GMAB, and projection welding
    • GM weld standards and specifications
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and various testing methods.
  • Experience with robotic programming for welding applications.
  • Understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
