Primary Function:
Inspect shredder and components throughout production day while monitoring and recording key metrics that ensure optimal production that is safe and efficient.
Scope of Work:
Responsible for inspections during operation of shredder among other tasks, including operational maintenance, start-up, production, and shut-down related tasks. Ground Person must communicate production status, machine status, and observations of production consistently to shredder operator and to supervision. In addition, must take a lead role in troubleshooting issues that stop production in order to ensure to minimize down time. Ground Person must be able to work with and understand performance metrics and production goals; and be accountable for the accuracy of regular inspections, maintenance records, and daily checklists related to production, safety, and maintenance.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Understand functionality of entire shredder and related components in order to accurately report, inspect, troubleshoot, and assist in maintenance on the machine.
- Clearly communicate operational needs during production. This includes being able to recognize issues within the system, and create a remedy for a safe solution.
- Perform inspections and routine maintenance on components of shredder system.
- Read and record several gauges related to inspection that includes amperages, pressures, fluid levels, and temperatures. Must have an understanding of what the readings mean, in addition to being able to record them.
- Troubleshoot operational issues during production time to ensure down time is minimized.
- Manage production goals, performance metrics, and be accountable for hourly production during operation.
- Continually maintain and inspect housekeeping related to shredder operation.
- Operator forklift and skid steer in order to help maintain housekeeping, move material, or weigh and replace tubs and hoppers.
- Use platform scale to weigh, record, and communicate quantities of sorted commodities from shredded scrap.
- Assist with maintenance projects when instructed and serve as a back-up shredder operator.
- Maintain safe and smart work practices at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
