| The Sr. Formulator Lead is responsible for leading the development, optimization, and technical oversight of nutraceutical formulations, including dietary supplements, powders, capsules, tablets, and functional beverages. This role ensures product efficacy, stability, and regulatory compliance while coordinating cross-functional activities between R&D, Quality, Procurement, and Production.
Key Responsibilities
Formulation & Product Development
- Develop new formulations for nutraceutical products based on customer requirements, market trends, and scientific data.
- Optimize existing formulas for cost, performance, stability, and sensory attributes.
- Conduct ingredient functionality assessments, compatibility studies, and dosage evaluations.
- Lead bench-top experiments, pilot batches, and industrial scale-ups.
- Maintain accurate formulation records, SOPs, and batch documentation.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the subject-matter expert (SME) for formulation science within the department.
- Guide junior formulators and technicians in method development, testing, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot formulation or production issues related to solubility, stability, flowability, compressibility, etc.
- Oversee R&D laboratory activities including equipment, raw materials, and testing protocols.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure all formulations comply with FDA 21 CFR Part 111 (Dietary Supplements), cGMP requirements, and internal quality standards.
- Review labels, ingredient statements, and nutritional panel accuracy.
- Support Quality Assurance in conducting stability studies and shelf-life assessments.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with Procurement to evaluate new raw materials and suppliers.
- Collaborate with Production during scale-up, validation, and first industrial batch runs.
- Provide technical support to Sales & Marketing for customer presentations and product feasibility.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, formulation summaries, stability results, and project timelines.
- Maintain the R&D database containing formulas, test results, and raw material specifications.
