REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION
  • Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required.
  • 0–2 years of related experience or internship experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical utility systems and engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, maps, and construction plans.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
  • Willingness to learn utility engineering processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license required.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening in accordance with the City’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy.

GENERAL FUNCTION
The Electrical Engineer I supports the design, planning, and coordination of electrical utility construction projects within the Electric Utilities Department. This entry-level role assists with the installation of new electrical systems and upgrades to existing utility infrastructure. Responsibilities include preparing construction plans, conducting field visits, coordinating with customers and contractors, and supporting engineering operations. Work is performed under the guidance of senior engineering and supervisory staff and is evaluated based on accuracy, technical development, teamwork, and customer service.
 
TASKS
Assists in preparing plans, drawings, and work orders for electric utility construction projects.
Supports coordination of project schedules, materials, and construction activities with customers, contractors, developers, and internal departments.
Conducts field visits to gather information and assess customer or system requirements.
Assists with surveying and staking utility lines for construction projects.
Communicates with contractors, builders, architects, engineers, and customers regarding requested electrical services and project requirements.
Reviews customer plans and construction documents to determine service needs and project specifications.
Maintains accurate project records and engineering documentation.
Assists with easement and right-of-way documentation as needed.
Supports analysis of electrical load requirements, metering equipment, and voltage needs.
Helps maintain utility maps, system records, and related engineering data.
Assists with preparing charts, graphs, and reports for departmental planning and budgeting.
Uses computer software and engineering tools to support daily operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
