| The Controls Engineering Supervisor leads the design, development, installation, and maintenance of industrial control and automation systems. This role supervises a team of controls engineers and ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The supervisor works cross-functionally with maintenance, production, engineering, and safety teams to ensure reliable and efficient automated operations.
This is a Direct Hire role with a salary ranging from $130k to $140k.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of controls engineers.
- Assign tasks, manage workloads, and ensure timely project completion.
- Conduct performance evaluations and promote a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Support employee development, engagement, and retention.
Controls & Automation Engineering
- Oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and optimization of control systems for production lines and industrial equipment.
- Provide technical leadership for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, DCS, robotics, and related automation systems.
- Ensure control systems meet safety, regulatory, and operational requirements.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex system failures to improve uptime and reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement new automation technologies.
Project Management
- Plan, schedule, budget, and coordinate control system projects.
- Track project progress, manage resources, and ensure quality standards are met.
- Prepare reports on project status, system performance, and technical issues for leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of contact for control system–related matters.
- Partner with operations, production, maintenance, and engineering teams to align automation with business goals.
- Meet with manufacturing and engineering teams to address open issues and improvement opportunities.
Compliance, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and healthful work environment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, safety, and quality management systems.
- Support annual reviews of environmental management systems and ensure adherence to environmental policies.
- Comply with industry standards, internal procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Attend internal meetings and address concerns as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by engineering leadership.

Skills & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls or automation engineering, including at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong hands-on experience with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
- Proficiency in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
- Familiarity with electrical systems, instrumentation, robotics, and high-speed assembly processes.
- Working knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and quality management standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Willingness to work weekends as required.
